“Nuevo Rico, Nuevo Pobre” Ends as the #1 Prime-Time Series

“Nuevo Rico, Nuevo Pobre,” the new version of Caracol Televisión’s hit comedy about two men who discover they were switched at birth and must face opposite realities, concluded its run last night on Caracol with outstanding performance: a 9.1 rating and 41.1% share.

This story, which has made its way around the world — with sales in more than 100 countries and adaptations in Mexico, Greece, and Serbia — drew an average of over 4 million viewers, who followed the plot starring Variel Sánchez (La Niña), Lina Tejeiro (Primera Dama), Laura Barjum (Klass 95), and Argentine actor Juan Guilera (Romina Poderosa).

The story begins 30 years ago when, in a hospital in a small town called San Francisco, two women from different families and social classes give birth. Due to a mistake by a nurse named Lucero Molina, who shows up to work intoxicated, the newborns from both couples are switched. The Ferreira family takes home who they believe is Andrés Ferreira Mancera, while the Galindo family believes they are taking home Brayan Galindo Romero.

Three decades later, the two men discover they were switched at birth, unleashing a series of events that will drastically change the lives of Brayan Galindo and Andrés Ferreira, the main characters affected by this mistake. Now, they must face what their lives would have been like with their biological families, as they belong to completely different worlds and must adapt to their new realities. They are forced to take on new roles: Brayan becomes the new CEO of the thriving company Cartsmart, while Andrés must find a way to survive in a world of scarcity and no privilege.

The series features a top-tier cast, including Marcela Agudelo, Ricardo Mejía, Julián Caicedo, Martha Restrepo, Álvaro Bayona, Jhon Alex Toro, Laura Taylor, Clary Borja, Cristian Villamil, Diego Vélez, among others. Manuel Peñaloza serves as executive producer, and the show is directed by Rodrigo Triana and Juan Carlos Vásquez.

Additionally, Caracol Televisión received the Golden Seal from the Environmental Media Association (EMA) for this series. Nuevo Rico, Nuevo Pobre was recognized as a sustainable production, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability and responsible practices throughout all stages of production. This project was a pioneer in connecting to the public power grid for several days, which avoided the use of fuel-powered generators, significantly reducing carbon emissions and noise on set. Key waste management actions were also implemented: in Cartagena, 100% of waste generated was managed, 76% was recycled, and the remaining non-recyclables were properly disposed of.

Nuevo Rico, Nuevo Pobre will be available on Netflix starting May 21.
