Noche de Caracol Televisión welcomed Nuevo rico, nuevo pobre, a new version of this iconic Colombian series that was sold in over 100 countries and successfully adapted in Mexico, Greece, and Serbia. This time, it comes with a fresh cast, a new approach, and the latest in technology and artificial intelligence, reflecting a modern and up-to-date production.
On its premiere night, the show, starring Variel Sánchez, Lina Tejeiro, Juan Guilera, and Laura Barjum, reached 8 rating points and a 39.6% share, meaning that 4 million viewers tuned in to Caracol Televisión.
This story, filled with humor and drama, begins 30 years ago in a hospital in a town called San Francisco, where two women from different families and social backgrounds give birth. Due to a mistake, a nurse named Lucero Molina, who arrives at work intoxicated, switches the newborns. The Ferreira family takes home who they believe to be Andrés Ferreira Mancera, while the Galindo family believes they are taking home Brayan Galindo Romero.
Three decades later, these characters discover that they were switched at birth, unleashing a series of events that will impact the lives of Brayan Galindo and Andrés Ferreira, the protagonists of this mix-up. Now, they must face their new realities with their biological families, as they belong to completely opposite worlds and must adapt to their new circumstances. They will have to take on major role reversals: Brayan becomes the new manager of the thriving company Cartsmart, while Andrés must find a way to survive in a world where needs are abundant, and privileges are nonexistent.
This new version of Nuevo rico, nuevo pobre also features a stellar cast, including Marcela Agudelo, Ricardo Mejía, Julián Caicedo, Martha Restrepo, Álvaro Bayona, Jhon Alex Toro, Laura Taylor, Clary Borja, Cristian Villamil, Diego Vélez, among others.
Cast Insights
Variel Sánchez (Brayan): “Viewers will meet a very relatable character, a charming neighborhood guy who, despite not being the most handsome, wins people over. He’s talkative and has a great essence,” said Variel Sánchez.
Lina Tejeiro (Rosmery): “One thing I’ll always remember is how hard it is to work with Variel Sánchez because he is just too funny. The toughest part is not laughing during scenes—I’ve even gotten scolded a few times for not being able to control it! I invite everyone to watch Nuevo rico, nuevo pobre because they will have a great time from start to finish.”
Juan Guilera (Andrés Ferreira): “I studied astrology, and to create Andrés Ferreira, I used that knowledge because it gave me a lot of insight into the character’s energy and how his journey should unfold in the story. I believe Andrés is very sensitive because, from a young age, he associated sensitivity and empathy with vulnerability and weakness… It’s a very well-written story.”
Laura Barjum (Fernanda Sanmiguel): “I think this character has been one of my biggest challenges because stepping into her world and mindset was the hardest part. But I believe I achieved it, and now I love her.”
Nuevo rico, nuevo pobre is produced by Manuel Peñaloza and directed by Rodrigo Triana and Juan Carlos Vásquez.
“Having Variel, Lina, Laura, and Juan, along with the entire cast in this new version, was a great decision,” said Manuel Peñaloza, General Producer, who also emphasized that this is a green production, utilizing LED lights to reduce energy consumption and significantly lower the carbon footprint. “Additionally, we have exciting innovations, such as Adi, the AI-generated character that interacts with Andrés Ferreira—and later Brayan Galindo—bringing the story to life with a crucial role. Audiences will witness remarkable technological advancements!”
