El Desafio / The Challenge, the original reality show by Caracol Televisión, has reached its sixth season in Bulgaria on NOVA, achieving high ratings in its initial episodes and positioning itself as a leader in its time slot.
According to official people metric data, audience share among active age viewers (18-59) averaged 36.2%. The results show that interest in the over 4-hour premiere episode have been steadily growing, and at the end was watched by more than 50% of all viewers in front of the TV screen at that time. NOVA also scored a 56% lead over the audience share of the second TV station in the rankings in the same time slot.
This reality format, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, has become the most successful show from Colombia, replicating its national success in adaptations in countries such as Mexico, the United States, Romania, Greece, and Russia.
In this new season, El Desafio / The Challenge in Bulgaria features new locations, including Durankulak Beach, located in the northern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The beach is longer, allowing filming from all angles. Additionally, the Field offers all the necessary conditions for challenges, while the Residence is a luxurious villa just five minutes away from Durankulak.
Another location where participants compete is the Farm, which is in an isolated area near Shabla. Here, the main objective is to protect and save endangered bird species, with contestants required to care for some of these birds.
The Swamp and the Deserted Beach present further challenges to the participants. The Swamp is an isolated, difficult-to-access area with harsh conditions, including a scarcity of food and an abundance of mosquitoes. Accessing the Deserted Beach is even more challenging, with very limited food availability.
A new and unprecedented location has also been introduced this season—Mad Max Arena. It is an excellent setting for large-scale industrial-style challenges, offering something different from the usual beach and field settings.
Teams of eight participants each, named the Brave, the Challengers, the Proud, and the Strong, will compete in this thrilling season.
