Escalona

Overview

“Rafael Escalona”, a handsome young student, vallenato composer, party animal and music lover, tries to keep his romance with “La Maye”, the prettiest, sexiest and naïve girl in town. “La Maye” feels jealousy due to her boyfriend’s fun and adventurous life, so she decides to let an older, enigmatic man, “Anastasio Espuelas”, court her with gifts and mysterious declarations of love. Several characters are involved in this rivalry set in a love battlefield, where mystery and the poetry of songs face each other to win “La Maye’s” heart. One is “La Vieja Sara”, a wise woman who will give up her life so the young kids can be together, or Escalona’s group of friends that become his adventure allies, drinking buddies and even his backup singers. In parallel to this troubled love triangle, there are some difficult and dangerous romances taking place, like the forbidden romance between “Pipe Socarrás”, Escalona’s smuggler friend, and “Desideria” a beautiful and young widow, “La Maye's” friend and is being courted by an older, mature General. The masterful series “Escalona” brings drama, fiction, music and scenery together in order to recreate and preserve the unique environment of vallenato culture. It reveals expressions of close friendships, honor, courtship and of course, the cult to vallento parties.
