The story revolves around Alejandro, Diego, Elisa and Maria, four characters that live borrowed lives. It all begins when Alejandro, trying to avoid his father’s punishment, “exchanges” his identity with Diego, so that he travels to Colombia taking his place. Alejandro is a Mexican, good-looking and rich man whose parents work in the hotel business. He lies to them about his being a medical student and his fiancée, Sofia, gives him away. The disappointed father sends Alejandro to the city of Cartagena, to one of the hotels he owns, so that he is treated like an ordinary employee, hoping this will make him value everything he has. But Alejandro cheats his father and sends his friend Diego to Colombia to replace him. Diego does not enjoy the game at all, but he meets Elisa, the hotel’s public relations manager, who is an ambitious, beautiful and smart woman. Elisa introduces him to her family; there he meets Maria, her younger sister, a young woman that plans to travel to Mexico to study and have a better future. Diego puts her in touch with Alejandro, who now leads a modest life in his friend’s apartment since he has taken his place. Maria travels to Mexico and Alejandro falls in love with her. Things get complicated when Alejandro’s father decides to visit Cartagena. Alejandro has to take over his identity and Diego comes back to Mexico to pay a visit to his family. During his stay in Cartagena, Alejandro meets Elisa and without knowing she is Maria’s sister, he grows fond of her. The relationship between the four of them is stretched to the limit when Diego gets engaged with Elisa and Alejandro, with Maria and Sofia at the same time. A Co-production of Caracol Television with TV Azteca. (Amores cruzados).
