Lucía Méndez, one of the most influential and admired figures in the history of Mexican telenovelas, is once again surprising the industry with a bold new turn in her career: Paloma, her first dramatized series in a vertical format— a narrative language that points toward the future of digital entertainment.
This innovative production, created and produced by Light Creations LLC and distributed by Caracol Televisión, sets a new industry benchmark: Méndez becomes the first major international star to headline a vertical novela, a format that is transforming the way stories are consumed on mobile platforms.
The story follows Paloma del Rey, an influential fashion magnate who, shaped by a traumatic past, has secretly built a clandestine network dedicated to punishing perpetrators of violence against women.
When her daughter Sol is kidnapped by Adolfo Ponce—the same man who harmed her in her youth—Paloma will unleash all her intelligence, power, and resources to confront him. In this mission, she will be supported by ISA, a highly intelligent virtual assistant, and Julián, her emotional and tactical ally.
An empire of glamour, secrets, and justice is about to unfold in an intense, cinematic narrative designed specifically for the vertical format.
Lucía Méndez shared:
“I’m truly very happy to be experiencing something so different and to understand that, in approximately one minute, you have to capture the audience’s interest. Getting to know the writers of vertical telenovelas—a disruptive genre that breaks conventions and is drawing attention worldwide—has been a very enriching process for me. I’m extremely excited: it’s a great team, the cast is wonderful, and I’m learning every day. Everything in life is a new learning experience, and right now I’m going through a different stage alongside Caracol Televisión, with whom we are going to project ourselves to the world in a very different way. Paloma represents something unprecedented in my career, and I am absolutely happy.”
This project strengthens Caracol Televisión’s commitment to innovative formats, following the historic success of Sí a primera vista, its first vertical drama, which surpassed 500 million views worldwide. With Paloma, the company reaffirms its position as a key player in the evolution of serialized Latin content across multiple platforms.
