His artistic name makes a reference to a Colombian port city located in the Pacific Ocean, called Buenaventura, the place where Yuri Bedoya was born. The sounds of the drums, the marimba and the black people´s lullabies at the border of the ocean all were breathed in the air there, and gave him inspiration for his songs, his rhythms and a way of making music; a drum based and mystical music. Then he immigrated to France. He lived on the streets until he found a space in the Latin music scene. One day he sold 4 million copies of his album and became one of Latin America’s most important artists in France. He owes that to two places: Buenaventura, which gave him his flavor, rhythm, his essence and Paris, which game him a place, and audience and his sensibility. (Buenaventura No me Dejes).
